Few running race courses can offer the kind of scenery like that found at Washington state’s Dog Lake Marathon & Half Marathon, which unfolds along a fast downhill route that starts in the Cascade range of the Snoqualmie National Forest, about 2 1/2 hours from Seattle. With snow-capped mountain peaks all around, runners start the race near the stop sign at the Dog Creek Campground exit along Highway 12, just south of the lake known as Dog Lake.
